Top 6 Cosmic Eclipse Cards!
Hello everyone! Today we are taking a look at the top 6 Cosmic Eclipse cards!
Volcarona GX came into the game at a time the world was in its favor. The immense Fire type support can help Volcarona be a primary attacker at best (using Welder or Red and Blue to setup Backfire) or a sniper at worst (using Flaming Shot for bonus damage). However, just using Backfire isn't strong enough when the best Pokémon have 240+ HP.
This isn't a card that I would use in the Standard Format. The Expanded Format has the right tools for a meme deck with Double Dragon Energy and Garbodor BKP. The Ability is too much of an issue to get around and while no one can solve that in the Standard Format, Garbodor in Expanded can remove your Ability and your opponent's Abilities (which are likely to be more useful than yours).
The fact that this thing is invincible against Tag Team Pokémon is amazing, and they went ahead and made it immune to Special Energy users and Ultra Beasts. That's all it has going for it, though, since both of its attacks are mediocre.
Having this kind of power is amazing. 180 damage isn't what it used to be, but it's still no joke. Also, fetching 3 cards from your deck is great for setting up, making this a bulky set up Pokémon. This card is best played with Reshiram and Charizard Tag Team GX as that card has more firepower but only has Welder for set up.
Honorable Mentions:
Being the largest Pokémon set in history, it was too hard to only choose 6 cards, so have 3 and a half honorable mentions!
Tag Team Supporters
Most of these cards give you 2 effects that ultimately lead to one thing; Red and Blue set up a Stage 1 Pokémon GX, Guzma and Hala put cards in your hand, Misty and Lorelei give Water decks another GX attack, etc. Some of these cards are good and you should expect them to make many appearances for the rest of the season until Sword and Shield comes out.
Volcarona GX
Volcarona GX came into the game at a time the world was in its favor. The immense Fire type support can help Volcarona be a primary attacker at best (using Welder or Red and Blue to setup Backfire) or a sniper at worst (using Flaming Shot for bonus damage). However, just using Backfire isn't strong enough when the best Pokémon have 240+ HP.
Ultra Necrozma
Alolan Persian GX
6. Silvally GX
I knew they would change the GX attack name...
This guy is an amazing and versatile card. Like the 2 Stage 1 GX Pokémon above, Silvally gets its strength from its ability. Disc Reload allows you to draw cards from your deck until you have 5 in your hand. This added draw power is great for many decks and adds an alternative or supplement to Dedenne GX. As a bonus, its GX attack kills Ultra Beasts instantly, while its only normal attack does 120 damage at most unless you have a Memory card from Crimson Invasion (Expanded only), Ultra Prism, and Team Up, made exclusively for cards named Silvally GX (there are 2 of them).
5. Reshiram and Zekrom Tag Team GX/N's Resolve
I had this card in mind when I wrote the Onix GX review.
Imagine attacking for 270 every turn with little investment and no drawback (thanks to N's Resolve, Welder, and Naganadel). This card embodies the power creep in Pokémon (for now). Being able to abuse Lightning, Fire, and/or Dragon support makes it even better.
Being able to defeat the Active Pokémon is cool, and so is sniping away on the Bench. Thankfully, Cross Break GX can do 170 to one Pokémon (or two if you played N's Resolve that turn). This allows easy knockouts on Dedenne GX and weakened Pokémon.
On the subject of N's Resolve, the card is a Max Elixir on steroids. Highly recommend for some Dragon decks.
4. Great Catcher
If you wanted an alternative to Custom Catcher, this is it.
Being able to grab any Pokémon EX or GX is big as some set up Pokémon like Dedenne GX are liabilities on the Bench that you can destroy to win easily. There's not much to say other than Custom Catcher might regain viability when Pokémon V come (since Great Catcher doesn't cover those).
3. Tag Call
Being able to search out powerhouse Pokémon and great Supporters is always a plus. Being able to search out two at a time is great. And at no cost? Amazing. As long as Tag Teams are good, Tag Call will be good as well.
2. Charizard and Braixen Tag Team GX
1. Arceus and Dialga and Palkia Tag Team GX
As expected from the deities of the Sinnoh region in Pokémon, this card is extremely powerful and a wonder to behold. Having Pikarom's normal attack is one thing, being able to set up Pokémon. This helps out Pokémon with heavy attack costs and can be of great use in the Expanded Format with Greninja and Zoroark Tag Team GX and Double Dragon Energy.
As for the GX attack...
I have never seen anything of such power in this game before. Being able to do 30 more damage for the rest of the game is one thing, but taking extra Prize Cards for knockouts? Epic. With Double Dragon Energy, the attack is available in one Energy attachment. This thing will be strong for a long time to come.
Conclusion
This set is amazing except for the part where the set is the largest in history (at least 250 different cards) and I have to decide which cards will go on this list. A pox and a plague on you and your Miltank, TPCI.
Oh yeah, and Mega Lopunny and Jigglypuff Tag Team GX is really good too.
